Email is the best way to get in touch (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please do not message me regarding orders or business inquiries via Ravelry, Instagram, or any other social media avenues. They most likely will be missed. I always try to respond to inquiries via email, within 24 hours, Monday - Friday. If contacting me over the weekend or holiday, please allow for the next business day for a response.
I generally update my shop weekly, Saturdays @ 5pm ACST, unless otherwise noted. If you like, you can follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or sign up for the newsletter to stay informed about updates and more.
I use Jacquard and Dharma acid dyes and acetic or citric acid to dye wool and wool blends. After yarn has been dyed, I allow it to cool before washing in a gentle wool wash then rinsing up to three times.
The below instructions are very important for my non-superwash hand spun yarns as they are more delicate than commercial, superwash yarns. My self striping yarns are all dyed on superwash yarn, but you will get better longevity of vibrancy from your hand dyed sock yarn if you follow these instructions:Hand wash your hand dyed yarn items in cold water and a gentle wool wash with no agitation past a gentle swirl. Rinse if required and squeeze (don't wring!) out the water. You may then roll your item in a towel and step on it to get any excess water out before lying flat to dry in the shade. That being said, I routinely machine wash my (superwash only!) hand dyed yarn items in a delicates bag on a cold, delicate cycle, with a gentle wool wash and low spin (800 rpm or less). BUT bear in mind that you may get more wear and tear on your items this way and even though my yarns are colourfast, the colour may not stay as vibrant.
A little dye bleeding is normal — especially with red, purple, magenta, or blue-based colourways. While yarn is rinsed multiple times after it is dyed, it is possible for some excess dye to remain. Simply rinse your project (separately) with a gentle detergent in lukewarm water. Repeat this process as necessary until water runs clear.
When it comes to hand dyed yarns, each skein is truly unique - that's the joy of hand dyed yarn! Skeins of the same colourway are never identical, even from the same exact dye pot, and their intensity varies from batch to batch. They're a work of art! If you order more than one skein of a particular colourway in the same order, I do my best to ship skeins that closely match. However, I always recommend alternating between two skeins, every few rows, to avoid pooling, flashing, or a sudden shift of colour.
It doesn’t look as pretty in a skein, right? However, did you know that when you wind yarn it stretches? And if it is left in the wound state for too long it will stay stretched. That is, until you wash it! When it hits the water it will snap back to its original shape and can cause your perfectly fitting socks to be too small after washing. I even rewind any self striping I personally purchase in balls back into a skeins and wash it before knitting, just to make sure my socks don’t shrink. By keeping my self striping yarn in a skein, I like to think I’m ensuring a great sock knitting (and washing!) experience for my lovely customers. The more you know!
Our yarns are skeined and twisted with the utmost care. I am not responsible, nor do I offer replacements or refunds for any snags or tangles that may occur in the caking or balling process. If you do not have access to a swift and ball winder, I will happily cake your yarn before shipment. Just let me know by adding a note your order.
Thank you very much for your interest! I am open to negotiating an occasional wholesale order although it is not where I intend my business to go overall. Please contact me via email@example.com to open a discussion.
